The farmHouse

Tastefully remodeled into a five room Bed & Breakfast, the Farmhouse was built in 1850 in the Central New York Greek Revival style. Much of the furniture has been in the home since the mid-1800’s when the Thomas family first came to Ellis Hollow. Roughhewn beams, wide plank floors and extensive original woodwork bring you back to a simpler time when friends and family were welcomed from near and far. The cozy bedrooms are filled with lavender eye pillows, quilts, down comforters and other amenities to make your stay comfortable no matter what time of the year you choose to visit.

The Property

Thomas Farm is nestled in the wooded hills of Ellis Hollow a short ten-minute drive east of Ithaca, New York. On the farm you’ll find nearly twenty-seven acres of peaceful retreat. A red barn built in the late 1800s dominates the east portion of the property that is home to an extensive wetland. From our small observation deck, you can enjoy the abundant wildlife to include our resident beavers and a multitude of birds that visit each season.

Across the road lies the farmhouse nestled next to a small stream that feeds the wetlands. A large deck in the back and a shaded porch in the front are great places to watch the wide variety of birds at our feeders and enroute to the wetlands. On the far side of the stream are old growth woods that contain short trails for a stroll after breakfast or take a trip around the property on cross country skis. The large lawn behind the house is a great place to play bocce or wiffle ball, throw a frisbee or simply enjoy the open space. A fire pit next to our small pond is the perfect place to recount the day, watch the abundant stars free from light pollution and enjoy a warm gooey s’more to finish the day in style.

People come to the Ithaca area for a myriad of reasons … incredible natural beauty, higher learning opportunities, great wineries and breweries, fantastic fishing …the list is endless. Central to all that Ithaca offers, the Thomas Farm is the perfect home base for any adventure. We’re a 15 minute drive from great hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing at Hammond Hill and Shindagin Hollow State Forests. Head 15 minutes west by car and you can be on the Cornell University or Ithaca College Campus or at the many State Parks that are the gems of our region. A bit farther away lies the heart of New York’s thriving wine country with many of the wineries providing incredible views of the pristine Finger Lakes. No matter where your tastes lie, the Thomas Farm is not far from the epicenter of enjoyment while providing a peaceful respite for well deserved “down time”.
